Cycles Radio is a weekly internet radio show featuring an eclectic blend of Progressive and Trance as well as touches of Techno, House and even deeper melodic vibes over a two hour fully DJ mixed show. One of the real attractions of the show is that Max can be reached live throughout the show through Twitter and Facebook. The main aim of the website was to bring the archive of shows together and give fans a central location to discuss and enjoy the music.
To meet this goal, we took social media interaction to the extreme! As well as the standard ‘Like’ and ‘Share’ buttons that are now pretty common place on the web, Max had a lot of other ways he wanted to reach his audience (or rather have them reach him!). The site is built in WordPress, but we stripped out the WordPress commenting system and instead integrated commenting directly from facebook. We also have a live twitter feed in the sidebar showing any mentions of #cyclesradio. I also built custom pages to then be integrated directly into his existing facebook pages, allowing people to listen to the show through facebook as well as voting for their favourite track of the week.
Max wanted it to be easy for people to hear the show, so we made it possible to download the whole episode or stream it straight from the site. Also the player opens in a pop-up window so that users can navigate away from the page (or the site entirely) and still enjoy the show. Keen to make sure all audience could enjoy the show anywhere, Max wanted the same media player to work on mobile devices. So if Flash is not detected, the player instead used modern HTML5 technologies to player the track – making it work across all platforms.
…Oh also the whole site looks pretty cool, but I’ll let you decide if you agree with that or not! Visit the site!
Huge thanks to Max for asking me to be involved in this project, I will continue to work with him in the future and fingers crossed we might have more projects to show off in the future.
